They are an option for patients with dentures who were told they cannot have implants due to severe bone loss. Regular dental implants are basically screws that are inserted INTO the bone. A subperiosteal dental implant is nothing new. Actually they were used in the 1970s and 1980s, but th...

I placed four dental implants on Rob in approximately 2004. He has had zero problems with them. Most recently I had to remove and replace the lower front teeth. Longevity for dental implants is extremely important. Dental implants are not permanent but the main thing is to do it right the first time. Listen to Rob’s experience.

I always wear my dentures. I hate it but my head doesn’t hurt if I wear them. I can’t eat with dentures. So shamefully I take them out and put in my pocket eat then hope I don’t loose one or both before I get them safely back in my mouth.

I went with all on 4 both upper and lower 5 years ago, they cost me 25,000, they are buityfull, most of all no more pain, they are perfect EXCEPT they break every couple of months, the acrylic doesn't stick to the titanium bridge, and cost me 250 to have repaired, up until yesterday, when my dentist dropped me, she said she was looking to much money on implants, which I don't understand, but now, well I am screwed.

hi doc.am getting an upper jaw bone grafting,I lost 2teath 18years ago and am now fixing them, but the doctor said that I need bone grafting and he is going to remove it from my hip and that scars me to death !. if you could've talked about the affects on both the jaw and the hip ,is it going to affect my walking or something like that?what would happen to my hip.and what are the disadvantages of this procedure as far as my hip is concerned. thank you so much,I really appreciate your videos, they are very informative and helpful.thank you once again.

They could always use synthetic bone graft, as far as your hip, they're not removing a chunk, just enough, the complication is that your body may not accept it in other areas but usually the procedure is a success and i wouldn't worry about it. Your hip is going to be fine.

Hi Dr.Amin I recently had two upper front teeth implants. Recommended by my dentist.I have a very strong bite and she said it would give more support to the two teeth. side by side It was quite expensive. over $8,000. total. Two implants were inserted and after four months the procedure was finalized. The Dentist told me to be very carefull because of my bite. She said she had joined the two teeth together to make them stronger. After 1 less than a month. I felt the teeyh loose I had to go to a different Dentist as an emergency as I Am out of the country. He told me I had a cantelivered restoration because 1 implant failed. Is it her option to do another implant without charge as I had paid for two. Thank You.

Nobel Biocare has researched the efficacy and long term success of the all on four procedure for 30 years. This method would not be so popular if it wasn't HIGHLY successful. It was specifically developed for people with significant bone loss who don't want grafting. If you're in that group seek an opinion other than this dentist who doesn't agree with it.

Dr Amin, my wife had all of her teeth replaced with implants. The dental team told her one-two days and she would not have pain. Five days later and it hasn't gotten any better, regarding the pain. That was such a big part of selling her on the procedure was how quickly you recover. Is this normal? Five days with no sign of the pain subsiding?

Dr Amin, l love your presentation. I have seen 3 dentists in the last 2 weeks. My present dentist pulled out my 5 front lower teeth and plan to do implants and bridges for me. He did 1 implant next to my left lower molar in 2014. I was so numb on the day of extraction, I didn't know he left 2 loose teeth next to the implant in. When I asked him why he left them in, he suggested to extract all my lower teeth and place hybrid prosthesis. To make long story short, one dentist agreed to extract all lower teeth including the implanted tooth as only half of the implant shaft is in the bone now due to bone loss and using a very short implant. He would Do 5 implants and HYBRIDGE denture screwed over the implants. He did a CT for me and told me my left molar and implant, and my 2 lower back teeth on the right are the only ones that quite stable. Another dentist would extract only the 2 loose teeth and do 3 implants and bridges. He did not do a CT of my mouth but only did some X-rays. My current dentist is in the process of giving me 2 treatment plans, one for implants and bridges and one for hybrid prosthesis.

Hello Dr. Ramsey....very good video this was. I am considering doing an implant on one of my upper front teeth which has been missing for over 10 years now. I was told the first thing is a good bone graft. I was hoping you could help me get a good answer on the following. How long before I get better (ie. no pain or discomfort at all) and be able to return to work. I work in a very fast environment where mental acuity is a MUST and I talk to a lot of people. So I can't be in any type of pain or even a slight discomfort in my mouth. Some dentist tell me 2 - 4 days but I am having hard time trusting that given the nature of the procedure. I would really appreciate if you could PLEASE give me your honest opinion. I am not referring to the bone integration time, rather the time it takes for all pain and related symptoms to completely go away. Thank you.

I had six implants put in over five years ago. Four upper and two lower, with bone grafts. When I got my snap in dentures from my regular dentist, the upper denture would rock up and down, and never did fit secure. Also food would get between my gum and denture, making it very painful to eat, and sometimes just to talk. They all came out within a year. The oral surgeon did his 4 upper implants over for free. Two of those have came out. My regular dentist charged me to do his over. My dentist never talked about the possibility of them failing. I was diagnosed with diabetes type II about two years and a half years ago. Just the other day he said It may be best if I just got regular dentures, and never mentioned anything about money. $30,000 for false teeth?

I got a large space missing in the upper back tooth #3, likely requiring lots of graft material due to removed bone and requiring a lateral approach. What are your recommendations, you mentioned gold under the crown is it common for labs to do? And as far as best material for my situation what do I have the doc put there what brand, what heals best? And this blood concentrated chemicals u mention do each has to be ordered separately or are all in one deal? and is this a common request for an affordable oral surgeon or will piss him off?

I've just had a 2nd "socket graft" on tooth #4 due to a failed apicoectomy and subsequent extraction of tooth #4 that was infected for several years without me knowing it. The access hole (in my jaw) that the first dentist made left the roots of tooth #5 exposed (not the tip of the root) and he did not close this hole with bone material, allowing a lesion to fester for years, eating away at bone tissue. The first bone graft became infected twice and was replaced about a week ago. During his second procedure, the 2nd dentist noticed bone loss (and infection) between the roots of tooth #5 and wanted to extract it out on the spot. (I paid ANOTHER dentist to pulp test this tooth which reported vitality) He said that he didn't think the 2nd bone graft would work either because of this. I disapproved so he cleaned out the infection and put some antibiotic paste in the area between the roots and it is now day 6 and its healing well. What are your thoughts on his evaluation? It seems to me he should have taken out all of the infection the first time. Also, he wants me to pay for the second bone graft now too. I've always thought that if a rendered service fails, the physician makes good on it. That being the reason one doesn't go to someone else to fix the problem.

I took a medication for 20 years that ended causing me to have to have many of my teeth removed. My insurance wouldn't pay for a partial but they would pay for a full denture so I decided to have the denture. The day I got them pulled, the dentist told me right AFTER she pulled the last one that I would never have an upper denture that works because I have that extra lump in the roof of my mouth. I wanted to punch her in the face for not telling me that BEFORE because had I known I would have just had to save the money and gotten a partial!. So here I am unable to eat with the dentures in because if I bite in the front the top back pops off due to the extra lump, yes it has a name but I can't remember it. It seems implants are my only option at this point to ever being able to eat a sandwich, a carrot stick or anything else that requires biting in the front but I can't afford them. They are ridiculously priced. It bothers me that I am stuck in this situation all because a dentist couldn't be bothered to make her observation known BEFORE pulling all my teeth instead of 2 minutes AFTER! She has cost me the rest of my life dealing with not ever being able to eat properly or to even be able to eat many foods at all. I think she should have to pay for my implants after what she did.

"Why are you blaming the dentist? Blame the medication or pharmacy or yourself for the loss of your teeth. Blame the insurance company for not paying for a partial denture (though that does not seem likely in my experience). They apparently forced you to have a full denture. Sure it would have been nice to know that the tori might make a denture more difficult to adapt to, but I have many patients with tori that function just fine with an upper denture. I am not justifying the treatment you received, just pointing out that there are a lot of factors leading to your situation. All of them seem to come down to money and unfortunately the more involved the more expense. Good luck, try to redirect your anger and look for a better solution. Be sure to do some research.

+justlikeu if you do dentistry can you tell me how to get dentures to work with a tori? mine is towards the back and the edge is right at the edge of my palette so i can't get suction enough so thst i can eat with them. I hat my palette expanded as a child so not sure if its a tori or something to do with the way that procedure healed. it feels like a large bone. The poor insurance i had at the time refused to pay for a partial and i didn't know my mouth wasn't like everyone else's. As soon as the dentist pulled my teeth and tried putting immediates in they fell. she then put her finger in the roof of my mouth and said oh no. dentures will never work for you. Too bad she hadn't looked a bit more before pulling. That's my beef with her. I just think a dentist should check out a person's mouth first for compatibility not after.
